ANALYSIS OF EVOLUTION OF URBAN INTERNAL SPATIAL STRUCTURE IN YANCHENG BASED ON GIS

Abstract：Based on the data of the four time phases of 1984, 1997, 2003 and 2006, and taking the advantages of GIS spatial analysis method which is the ring system, this paper analyzes the spatial differentiation characteristic of urban industrial land, residential land and community service land in Yancheng city, Jiangsu Province. It is indicated that industrial land is gradually spreading from the internal city to the outside; the construction of the residential land is revolving from the single peak to double peaks; the construction of the community service land is from the single peak to the multi-peak in the study period. Kinds of landscape pattern indices are used to analyze the morphological evolution characteristics of the urban functional land-use in Yancheng city. By calculating the mean area, area-weighted mean area and large patch index, it is showed that the integrity of the industrial land is improving gradually, and the integrity of the residential land and the community service land have gone through the process of improvement after reduction. By calculating the area-weighted mean Euclidean nearest-neighbor distance, patch cohesion index and patch density, it is found that space gathering of the industrial land, residential land and community service land have also experienced the process of improvement after reduction. By calculating the diversity index of the urban land, it is indicated that the heterogeneity of the urban land would appear enhancing process before the weakness. On the basis of the above analysis, it shows that the evolution of urban internal spatial structure of Yancheng city is characterized by obvious stages. From 1984 to 2006, the evolution process of urban internal spatial structure can be divided into three stages:the age of cluster, the age of distribution and the age of re-cluster. In the evolution of internal spatial structure of Yancheng City, pointed out are the problems such as lots of industrial land located in the city periphery, the relatively large proportion of the industrial land and residential land in the city center and so on. The key measures for the urban administrators and designers to guide the healthy development of Yancheng City are how to avoid such problems.
